Today's Innovation

Today's EE faculty continues the long tradition of innovative research started 100 years ago. They are lead partners or core members of several interdisciplinary research centers and work in progressive technologies such as nantotechnology, genomics, microelectricalmechanical systems, and very large-scale integrated circuits. Current areas of research are electromagnetics, communications, wireless, energy systems, control and robotics, VLSI, digital systems, embedded systems, electronic devices, transducers, MEMS, signal and image processing, and photonics.

The EE faculty at the University of Washington have a strong record of achievement in diverse fields of research. This is reflected in the number of Career grants awarded to our younger faculty members and the number of IEEE Fellows awarded to those faculty members who have achieved prominence in their respective areas. These awards are listed in our research pages along with other notable achievements.

EEK 2006 (Electrical Engineering Kaleidoscope), our annual research review, is now available. The authors in this latest edition are the future leaders in our field - our current grad students and post-docs. The 2005 edition featured a look forward at the next 100 years of Electrical Engineering and EEK 2004 chronicled our department's first century of leadership in education, research, and service.

Emeritus Faculty

Many of EE's emeritus faculty continue to live in Seattle and meet on a weekly basis for lunch. They are pictured below at an annual potluck held in February 2006. Come catch up with them on April 29th!
