Professional Masters Program is launched for part-time evening students
The new Professional Masters Program (PMP) in Electrical Engineering is now fully launched with approximately 50 students in the program. Courses in the PMP are scheduled in the evening, and designed so that students generally need come to campus only once per week. With a stellar curriculum equivalent to the daytime Electrical Engineering masters program, the PMP offers a wide range of courses, from wireless communications and electromagnetics to microelectromechanical systems. Courses are taught by UW EE faculty members. The PMP leads to the same degree (MSEE) offered through the daytime program.
The PMP is designed to allow students to earn the MSEE in 9 quarters. The program requires 45 credits for degree completion (of which 9 credits are earned cumulatively as part of a quarterly Seminar series). The inaugural class drew from applicants with a variety of backgrounds. One third of the enrolled students are women, compared to the daytime program which averages closer to 20%. Many companies in the Puget Sound region are represented, although by far the largest is the Boeing Company. Others include Blue Origin, Fluke, Honeywell, Microsoft, Motorola, Panasonic Avionics Corporation, and Philips Ultrasound.
Applications for admission to the PMP for Autumn 2008 are currently being accepted, with a priority deadline of July 1st. An information session for prospective applicants is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 5:30pm.
