Xiaoyong Li Receives Chinese Thousand Talents Award

UW EE alumnus Dr. Xiaoyong Li has received the Thousand Young Talents Award from the Chinese Thousand Talents Program, which is the most prestigious Chinese National Program for recruiting global experts, and is akin to the US NSF CAREER Award. The program provides top salaries and attractive funding to elite researchers who are expected to lead innovative fields of study, improve key technologies and develop high-technology industries.

The program, which started in 2008, aims to attract about 2,000 talented overseas Chinese to return to China over the next ten years. Recipients receive several million RMB in research funding, a substantial relocation package, and other support and benefits. Consequently, Dr. Li was appointed as a special Associate Professor on a fast track to promotion to Professor in the School of Microelectronics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Xiaoyong completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering at UW in 2004 with Professor David Allstot. He worked as a Senior Staff Engineer at Qualcomm, Inc., in San Diego, CA prior to joining SJTU in 2012.
