EE's Miguel Ortega-Vazquez Named IEEE Senior Member

EE Assistant Professor Miguel Ortega-Vazquez was selected as a Senior Member of IEEE, the status of which only 7% of the organization’s 431,000 members achieve.

The Senior Member is IEEE's distinguished membership grade approved and assigned by the IEEE only for members with 10 years in their profession and at least five years of significant technical or professional performance. According to IEEE, “Senior Member is the highest professional grade of the IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires experience and reflects professional accomplishment and maturity.”

Prof. Ortega-Vazquez was appointed Research Assistant Professor in UW EE in 2012 and Assistant Professor in 2013 after previously serving as Assistant Professor in the Division of Energy and Environment at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and as Research Associate in the Power Systems research group at the University of Manchester (formerly UMIST) in Great Britain. His research interests revolve around developing computational methods to facilitate an economically efficient, operationally secure and environmentally friendly operation and planning of electric power systems.
