Remembering Gaetano Borriello

The Department of Electrical Engineering sadly announces the recent passing of Adjunct Faculty Member Gaetano Borriello on February 1, 2015. The Jerre D. Noe Professor of Computer Science & Engineering, Borriello passed away at his home following a six-year long battle with cancer. Known for his dedication to students, Borriello was devoted to the UW, which was the only university he applied to upon graduating from Berkeley in 1988.

In Borriello’s honor and memory, the CSE Department established the Gaetano Borriello Fellowship for Change to support students whose work is focused on exploring how technology can improve the lives of under-served populations.

The UW community lost a friend, mentor and a good citizen of our community. Borriello represented all that is good about an academic community, on par with the late David Notkin.
